Requirements
In accordance with a detailed cleaning plan, the Janitor/Custodian performs general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment. They perform other tasks as assigned in emergency or unusual situations with specific guidance from their supervisor. Examples of additional work to be performed include but are not limited:

Manage snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage, and special event support.

Clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per an eight hour work day.

Perform duties using standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade, observing all safety rules, regulations, and precautions.

Represent the department with the University community and its visitors, behaving in a professional manner and keeping informed of departmental and University rules, regulations, and guides pertaining to employment obligations.

Comply with attendance and clock in and out on time.

Work with other University Facilities staff as part of a team, being flexible with schedules to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal.
Work Interactions
This position reports directly to one of the Custodial Supervisors (one of four night supervisors, one of three Residential Custodial Supervisors, an Evening Custodial Supervisor, a Day Custodial Supervisor, or a Weekend Custodial Supervisor). The position may report indirectly to a Night Operations Manager depending on the shift assigned. Incumbent will work alone or with others. The incumbent will perform essential or non-essential tasks as assigned by supervisor and also perform assignments made by the Manager of Custodial Services and/or the Night Operations Manager. Under certain circumstances including but not limited to, emergency snow removal, spills and flooding, the incumbent will perform assignments made by the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Resource Manager, the Infrastructure Manager and other department managers. The incumbent’s work constitutes a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.
Requirements and Qualifications

HS or GED preferred

One year of custodial work experience is preferred

Valid and current driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia

Basic knowledge of English including the ability to read, write, and speak English with understanding in order to read and understand product label instructions and University policies and procedures

Must be able to relate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center

Mus complete a training program in building cleaning

Pay: $17.58 per hour plus an additional $1.00 per hour as a night shift differential hour

Schedule: Sunday – Thursday 10:30 pm to 7:00 am
