The Child Development Center is looking for a full time, dependable, and dedicated school custodian to join our team. We are a nationally accredited and a 4-Star Texas Rising Star preschool. As an established non-profit preschool, our primary focus is on children, families, and staff. The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining excellent care and cleanliness of offices, classrooms, common areas and the overall appearance of our facilities.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
Responsibilities and Duties Include:
- Perform general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming classrooms, offices, and common spaces.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.
- Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to disposal area.
- Operate cleaning equipment
- Performing minor repairs and maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging toilets, hanging items, etc.
- Respond to calls for clean up of spills, bodily fluids, and more
- Basic knowledge of power tools when applicable
- Report to work in timely manner according to assigned schedule
- Follow established safety procedures while performing job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Performing minor repairs and maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging toilets, hanging items, etc.
- Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
- Basic knowledge of power tools when applicable
- Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community, and visitors
- Be adaptable and work with frequent interruptions
- Perform other duties consistent with general requirements and qualifications for the position as assigned by administration
Qualifications:
- One year of school custodian or janitorial experience preferred.
- Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must pass a government run background check prior to employment
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning tasks
- Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Must be able to carry, lift, push, or pull at least 50 lbs
- Must be able to stand and be physically active for long periods of time
- Must be able to bend, kneel,
- Must have physical stamina to handle various cleaning tasks throughout the day
- Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to provide professional references
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting pay at $21 - $23 per hour, commensurate with experience
