Job Summary
The primary role of the Dietary Aid is to wash dishes, glassware, flatware, food preparation equipment and utensils. This position is also responsible for mopping floors and cleaning surfaces as required. The Dietary Aid is also responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to ensure loss, waste, and fraud is minimized. Operation of commercial dishwashing equipment is necessary to perform required duties. Also responsible for preparing food to be served complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards following established food production programs and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keeps work area neat and clean at all times; clean and maintain equipment used in food preparation, dishwasher, refrigerators, ovens, etc.
- Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures for quality assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and guests; when applicable.
- Uses chemicals properly on equipment.
- Checks ice machine and monitors beverage levels during every mealtime.
- Stores leftovers properly to prevent contamination.
- Cleans worktables, storage areas, and equipment.
- Uses proper methods and cooking temperatures to prevent contamination, spoilage, and waste.
- Sweeps and mops floors.
- Take daily food and equipment temperatures.
- Wipe down all countertops, tables, and chairs in the dining hall.
- Wash all dishes, glassware, flatware, utensils using commercial dishwasher.
- Clean all work surfaces as needed.
- Remove trash and clean trash cans as needed.
- Stock supplies and equipment in appropriate areas.
- Maintain clean dishes, utensils or cooking equipment in storage areas.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- Two years’ experience as a cook or prep cook preferred.
- Knowledge of standard practice, procedures and equipment required in the food industry. Knowledge of state health codes.
- Ability to work with male and female, adult (18-over) substance abuse/dual diagnosed population.
- Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and smell continually. Ability to stand, walk and reach frequently. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine. Distance vision required to drive an automobile, if driving is a requirement of the job.
- Work environment is indoors and climate controlled. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
- Moderate noise levels as found in a business office with computer printers, households with TVs and dishwashers, and driving light traffic.
