Essential personnel are generally defined as employees critical to ensure the operations of essential functions of the department. Additionally, on a case-by-case basis, staff members may be designated as essential by management based on the nature of the emergency and/or the availability of other personnel. Individuals identified as essential personnel, may be expected to be on-site regardless of the employee's normal work schedule. In Services, the Grounds and Custodial staff are determined as essential.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
USF's Office of Administrative Services (OAS) is made up of the dedicated people who keep our campus, the equivalent of a medium-sized city, moving forward. This team delivers essential services across USF's multiple campuses and locations that together total 11 sites, 1,646 acres, 350 buildings, and 12.8 million gross square feet. With responsibilities that include land use and planning, construction and development, maintenance and utilities, custodial and grounds services, parking and the Bull Runner bus system, environmental health and safety, university police, and emergency management; the OAS team has a wide-reaching impact that touches nearly every aspect of the University of South Florida community in support of the university's mission and strategic plan.
On USF's Tampa campus, the OAS team performs a broad scope of services that includes processing and completing over 45,000 work orders annually, providing custodial and maintenance services for 83 buildings totaling 4.5 million square feet, managing over 350 construction and renovation projects each year, providing utilities services for 350 buildings totaling 12.8 million square feet, maintaining 20,500 parking spaces across 93 surface lots and 4 garages, operation and maintenance of a fleet of 26 buses, and performing grounds care of 500 acres of space.

The Facilities Services Department is responsible for custodial services, grounds and landscaping, maintenance, repair of university vehicles, waste management and recycling, and the operation of the USF Post Office.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Floor Technicians maintain the overall appearance and good condition of floors and other surfaces by performing daily project assignments and daily cleaning and maintenance of hard floors, carpets, and other surfaces throughout multiple buildings on campus that are consistent with organization standards. The areas of assignment include but are not limited to Faculty/Staff offices, clinical space and patient rooms, classrooms, corridors, waiting areas, labs, auditoriums, and recreation center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily responsibilities include but are not restricted to, relocating furniture, executing tasks, and repositioning furniture upon task completion. Perform cleaning tasks, including dust mopping, auto scrubbing, burnishing, stripping, waxing, and refinishing floors. Conduct deep cleaning and sanitization of restrooms using equipment like the KAIVAC machine or similar tools, scrubbing tiles in restrooms and other relevant areas. Thoroughly clean all surfaces throughout buildings, employing appropriate equipment and cleaning supplies. Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored after each use.
Collaborate with the supervisor, efficiently utilizing resources and information, such as work schedules, procedures, and work orders, to successfully complete all daily assignments.
Operate motorized vehicle to transport equipment, tools, and supplies that are used to perform daily assignments.
Promptly report and elevate any concerns, such as malfunctioning equipment and inefficiencies. Verify that the use of chemicals and equipment aligns with established safety standards and practices. Execute tasks and assignments within the designated time frame while guaranteeing that the quality of work adheres to relevant guidelines.
Collaborate with team members and peers and engage them to ensure the completion of assigned tasks. Follow the overall sequencing of assigned tasks and recognize the potential of teamwork and the importance of working efficiently.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires completion of the 9th grade and six months to one year of cleaning/custodial experience. A valid Florida Driver's License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated.
PREFERRED:
This position prefers a High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion and work experience of 2-5 years or more in a healthcare, commercial, or education setting using various types of floor cleaning equipment. Must be able to demonstrate floor tech experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Experience in working as part of a team. Experience in floor care and using floor care equipment. Ability to follow instructions and guidelines when operating equipment and motorized vehicles and follow manufacturer's instructions and recommendations when using and diluting chemicals. Follow established deadlines and ability to work under pressure.
