Environmental Senior Technician
Purpose: The Senior Environmental Specialist is a lead industry professional engaged in planning and participating in development and implementation of programs and policies affecting environmental and resource conservation initiatives, with primary focus on student, staff, and community safety and District regulatory compliance. Position exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment in performing regular technical tasks and confers with administrative leaders on major administrative or policy questions and issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Physical or Biological Science, or two years college with experience in environmental initiatives associated with the field of water, wastewater, petroleum, industrial pollution, and/or hazardous waste.
2. Three (3) years of progressively knowledgeable and skilled industry experience that includes, but is not necessarily limited to, site inspections, field sampling, and data collection and reporting.
3. In-depth knowledge of environmental field sampling procedures, chain of custody protocols,and data analysis techniques.
4. Ability to interpret and follow regulations related to environmental sampling.
5. Ability to organize, write, and present clear and concise inspection and/or regulatory compliance reports and associated documentation.
6. Ability to lead, guide and instruct staff in procedures, protocols, and regulatory standardsgoverning the work, as well as internal department policies and practices.
7. Ability to work both independently and within a team structure.
8. Ability to work effectively with personnel involved in the day-to-day operations of schools, facilities, and other departments.
9. Knowledge of current computing technologies and software applications appropriate to the position’s job responsibilities.
10. Valid Driver’s License.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
1. Inspects electronic monitoring and/or inventorying systems to identify potential or existing sources of contamination according to assignment area, e.g., water, wastewater, soil, petroleum storage, industrial pollution, radon gas, asbestos, indoor-air quality, hazardous waste.
2. Collects field samples utilizing prescribed sampling procedures and records data from various sources, e.g., underground storage tanks, fuel storage systems, environmental monitoring wells, soil, automotive equipment, and vehicles.
3. Prepares and packages field samples for delivery to accredited laboratories for analysis; initiates corrective actions as indicated by laboratory results.
4. Assists with the ordering and procurement of supplies, materials, and equipment needed for areas of responsibility; ensures proper care, maintenance, cleaning and storage of supplies, materials, and equipment in accordance with departmental standards and requirements.
5. Supervises various routine and incidental activities for compliance with regulatory standards and protocols, e.g., fuel deliveries, biocide treatments, fuel polishing.
6. Performs quality assurance/control inspection, assessment, and maintenance on various systems, e.g., secondary containment, electronic inventorying, fuel delivery.
7. Compiles, maintains, and updates various reports, files and documentation, e.g., operationand inspection logs, regulatory compliance reports, fuel inventories and deliveries, securityand reconciliations.
8. Submits clear and concise technical reports detailing, but not limited to, inspections, field conditions, data results, incident investigations, inventory audits, and remedial activities.
9. Functions as leader worker or facilitator for tasks and/or special projects as directed to benefit newer, less experienced staff in knowledge transfer of policies, protocols, and regulatory standards governing the work.
Performance Effectiveness Criteria:
In addition to the employee being responsible for each of the performance responsibilities listed herein, annual progress will be assessed with respect to support and achievement of the District Strategic Plan and associated applicable scorecards.

*Please note that the starting pay for this position will be at the lower end of the advertised pay range. There may be opportunities for slight adjustments based on education/experience.

Pay: $51,029.00 - $102,991.00 per year
