FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
This position is required to perform a wide variety of custodial tasks associated with day-to-day housekeeping in an academic and residential school environment.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops floors and carpets.
- Disposes of wastepaper and other refuse to outside dumpsters.
- Washes walls, windows, window screens, blinds and waste receptacles, dusts all horizontal surfaces.
- Cleans and polishes furniture and stainless steel.
- Dust and clean light fixtures and air vents.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms to include toilets, stall partitions, walls, floors, showers and all related fixtures.
- Keeps buildings stocked with needed supplies.
- Spot clean carpets as needed.
- Assists with special project cleaning as assigned.
- Reports building damage and repair needs to supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to perform all normal housekeeping functions.
- Knowledge and ability in the use of cleaning chemicals on various kinds of surfaces.
- Knowledge and skills in cleaning procedures and techniques.
- Ability to operate various types of housekeeping equipment to include: brooms, mops, vacuums, brushes and carpet shampooers.
- Ability to follow and perform prepared daily work schedule.
- Ability to maintain and re-supply a custodial closet.
- Ability to read container labels (i.e. warnings, cautions, etc.).
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with supervisor, co-workers, staff and students.
- Ability to walk, bend and climb stairs a considerable amount of the day.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds with assistance to remove refuse from buildings and place in dumpsters.
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of work constantly to move objects.
- Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR and CPI.
- Basic knowledge of Floor Finishing
Applicants who are selected for hire are encouraged to learn sign language.
Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.
Hiring Salary Range: $34,866.52 - $37,866.52 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.
Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm

Condition of employment
