Job Summary:
A custodian must perform special cleaning projects as well as daily cleaning duties. This position cleans and maintains the appearance of all flooring surfaces as well, throughout the facility in standard procedures of the housekeeping department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Cleans and disinfects rooms, restrooms, offices, and other common areas within the building environment to established standards
- Collects and disposes of regular trash and recycles materials
- Replenishes, hand soap, hand sanitizers, and other supplies as needed
- Dust mops floors with microfiber using a standard operating procedure
- Handles various types of cleaning chemicals in compliance with applicable regulations and utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces, furniture, spot wash walls, clean and polish fixtures, air vents, handrails, blinds, windows and sills, and other items as required
- Performs sweeping, mopping, stripping, and refinishing of hard flooring surfaces following standard operating procedures
- Vacuums and scrubs carpeted surfaces following standard operating procedure
- Moves furniture and other objects as needed to complete floor care and returns all moved items to their original place upon completion
- Monitors supply and requests additional cleaning solutions as needed
- Ensures all floor machines are kept clean and in proper working condition
- Handles diverse types of cleaning chemicals in compliance with established guidelines and utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Reports any conditions requiring maintenance, attention, or repair to the immediate supervisor
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
- Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two years of related experience required
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to load noises
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times
- Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
- Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
