Scope of Position:
The Shelter Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe facility and grounds at all times. Responsibilities include custodial and general maintenance and will maintain a clean and sanitary shelter facility along with the dining room and restrooms managing assigned volunteers as directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of all private and public areas.
- Responsible for all dusting, sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, cleaning windows, vacuuming, emptying trash, clean and sanitize restrooms – according to established printed schedule.
- Keep all custodial areas and storage neat and clean.
- Dispose of Waste and Trash on site.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance procedures on assigned areas and equipment such as restrooms, public areas, trash containment area and any public or work area.
- Maintain whole site appearance of the shelter facility ensuring an attractive, safe, and functional facility for all guests, visitors, and employees.
- Adhere to, and if necessary, adjust daily custodial schedule internally and externally to accomplish all tasks in communal spaces.
- Clean Shelter rooms after Program Participants leave the shelter.
- Clean all common and communal area spaces.
- Ensure all chemicals and supplies are appropriately stored and secured from theft.
- Maintain supply inventory and order replacement supplies as necessary.
- Be attentive to safety and security concerns by regularly checking entry points and locking as appropriate.
- Report suspicious persons or activity to supervisor immediately.
- Other Duties as assigned by the Shelter Management.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers, and reach overhead.
- Operate telephone.
- Operate a desktop or laptop computer.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
- Work inside a temperature-controlled facility cleaning Shelter rooms and common areas.
MISCELLANEOUS:
The Salvation Army does have a dress code that includes professional dress which is appropriate to the work environment and reflects well on the organization.
