Job Description: Custodian
POSITION SUMMARY:
Custodians will have the responsibility to maintain areas that include offices, restrooms, break rooms, snack shops, conference rooms/centers, classrooms, corridors, lobbies, entrances, stairwells and other public areas such as cafeterias, health units, and fitness centers within the facility in a clean and sanitary condition at all times. They may also be tasked with policing of the grounds, parking areas, and entrances. This position will perform repetitive tasks that are taught to each in an on‐the‐job training program.
All custodial employees will be citizens of the United States or an alien who has been lawfully admitted for permanent residence as evidenced by Alien Registration Receipt Card Form 1‐51 and will speak and read English proficiently.
The Lead Custodian, Operations Manager, and or Project Manager may assign other operational duties as necessary to be accomplished by the custodial services workers to include “All other duties as assigned”.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- This job requires specific Green Cleaning procedures and protocols which will be covered during the employees initial on the job orientation and training.
- Obey all safety requirements and procedures at all times.
- Secure the work area and post proper safety notices for other users of the space prior to beginning work. As applicable to the task.
- Floors care, including routine mopping (dry and damp), buffing and burnishing on hard surface floors and stairwells. As applicable to the task.
- Vacuuming, shampooing, bonneting and extracting carpets, stairwells. As applicable to the task.
- Wall cleaning (as directed by the Lead Custodian and or Operations Manager as necessary to assist).
- Dusting (high and low) (as directed by the Lead Custodian and or Operations Manager or necessary to assist).
- Routine restroom cleaning or machine shower scrubbing (as directed by the Lead Custodian and or Operations Manager or necessary to assist).
- Routine office and/or classroom cleaning (as directed by the Lead Custodian and or Operations Manager or necessary to assist).
- Periodic cleaning of the above (as directed by the Lead Custodian and or Operations Manager or necessary to assist).
- Cleanliness and Maintenance (insuring once per month or as needed servicing of items such as vacuums) of equipment and custodial storage rooms and closets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 1.5 years’ experience.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and implementation with minimal to no assistance.
- Knowledge of operating various pieces of equipment necessary to effectively perform job functions, such as vacuum cleaners, dual dollies, carts, mop bucket/ringer and mop, etc.
- Ability to understand and follow directions from the Lead Custodian and or Operations Manager.
USE OF EQUIPMENT: Capable of operating and care for each type of equipment typically used to perform the job; Mop & Wringer, Light & Heavy Vacuum, Wet Vac, etc.
LIFTING REQUIREMENTS: The following best describes the required usual lifting activity.
- Sedentary Lifting up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying small items (files, manuals, binders). As applicable to the task.
- Light Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 10 pounds. As applicable to the task.
- Medium Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. As applicable to the task.
- Heavy Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 pounds. As applicable to the task.
- Very Heavy Lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 50 pounds or more. As applicable to the task.
