Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef and/or their designee, the Utility Person is to perform all duties to ensure the dining facilities are cleaned and sanitized. Follow all daily and weekly cleaning schedules; perform all proper cleaning and any preventive maintenance of equipment. Performs duties in accordance with local and state health requirements. Cooperates and coordinates work activities with co-workers to ensure a smooth run department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Is in proper uniform, clocked in and ready to work at scheduled time.
- Maintains clean and professional appearance follows outlined daily and weekly cleaning schedules;
- Operates dish machine by standard procedures
- Operates 3-compartument pot sink by standard guidelines;
- Follows outlined daily and weekly cleaning schedules;
- Transports all clean small wares to their proper storage place; assist chef in washing, peeling, cutting of food; sweeps and mops all hard floor surfaces during shift; cleans up all spills of hard floor surfaces; discards broken and chipped glass and plat ware after showing to supervisor.
- Keeps all storage facilities clean and organized; follows all scheduled cleaning assignments;
- Informs Sous Chef or their designee of any janitorial items needed to complete job.
- Set up dish machine
- Fill pot sinks Washes dishes, glasses, silverware, pots and pans.
- Maintains areas in a clean-as-you-go condition
- Checks trash cans continuously
- Returns clean dishes and pots to proper storage areas
- Sorts silverware frequently Sweeps and mops all floors in kitchen, server, and service areas.
- Breaks down dish machines and cleans them
- Cleans and organizes pot sinks Keeps dish and pot areas orderly and clean
- Promotes clean, safe and neat environment for customers, self and staff
- Practices all safety, emergency, and loss prevention procedures.
- May deliver take-out orders to residents
- Responds to all fire alarms and assist in the evacuation of residents when needed
- Adheres to company policies and procedures
- Attends departmental education and all required in-service training/education
- Maintains confidentiality of resident/family and facility information
- Cooperates with staff of other departments when needed
- Represents the organization through professional demeanor and attitude
- Provides quality customer service in all interactions with residents, guests and staff
- Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends and holidays
- Performs other duties as required
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; may be working toward high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age
- Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instruction
- Provides quality customer service in all interactions with residents, guests and staff
- Good communication skills and ability to get along with others
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility and patience and work as a member of a team
- Good personal hygiene to comply with department of health practices and regulations
- Ability to read and understand information about proper cleaning products and use them correctly in order not to cause danger to themselves or others
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Able to work well with others, including staff, supervisor, residents, families, volunteers and the public
- Able to operate dish machine and garbage disposal.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Clean, well lit, climate controlled environment. Must be able to withstand heat while working in dish room, around stoves, oven and changes in temperatures when going in/out of walk-in coolers and freezer.
