Job Summary
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for providing a safe environment for patients and caregivers achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens. Responsible for ensuring timely room and bed cleans related to turnaround time while maintaining consistent infection prevention protocols. Performance of all job functions will be consistent with the mission of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center and to all customers regardless of age (from birth to geriatrics), sex or national origin.
Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) preferred.
Experience:
Prefer six months of previous or related work experience, but not required.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Practices critical thinking skills by prioritizing job tasks and immediate needs (stat cleans). Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's safety practices. Ability to operate and maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment. Can identify the difference between levels of disinfection and perform low and high touch cleaning disinfection practices. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, interpret written cleaning instructions, and demonstrates the effective use of computers and mobile devices to perform essential job functions. Assists with onboarding of new caregivers to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

Responsible For:
Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection processes, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
Physical and Special Demands:
This position requires standing and walking most of the day. Other physical demands include bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pulling, climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Must be able to push or pull 150 pounds. Demonstrates personal accountability and the ability to work independently during day, evening or night shift as assigned. The employee is occasionally exposed to chemicals, fumes, bio-hazard waste, airborne particles, odors, equipment operation noise, outside weather conditions, and the need for personal protective equipment other than gloves may be necessary throughout the day.
