The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is searching for a self-motivated, experienced janitor to lead the Rail District’s Janitorial Team. Our employees are proud to ensure courteous, safe and reliable transportation of our customers across the Cleveland metropolitan area. The Janitorial Leader sets the example for the entire Rail Janitorial staff and crew. Detailed Description
Duties: Provide direction to Janitorial staff and crews. Cleans and maintains Rapid Transit stations and platforms. Cleans both the equipment and office sections of the Bus District’s garages and Rail Complex buildings. Cleans Bus and Rail Maintenance Service buildings. Operates heavy equipment. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. For Eligibility List.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a high school diploma or its GED. Applicants must have at least six (6) months previous experience performing Janitorial services and have the physical capacity to perform the Janitorial duties including moving supplies and equipment and manual snow removal. Applicants must be able to operate walk-behind and riding scrubbers, floor machines, carpet scrubbers and extractors and forklifts. Applicants must have good oral and written communication skills. Applicants must have a valid Ohio Drivers’ License.
Successful candidates will be expected to pass a background check and post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity.

Environmental Conditions: This person’s job duties will be a combination of field work; inspecting work sites and attending to departmental performance issues and office work; entering data on a computer, attending meetings, hearings and the like at external locations and be subjected to the weather, terrain and transportation issues etc.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand or be physically mobile for up to eight (8) or more hours a day. The employee is frequently required to see, hear and speak. The employee may be required to work at a computer video display terminal up to three (3) hours a day. The employee is required to travel and work irregular schedules. The employee must lift and carry files, books and supplies up to fifty pounds to remote locations inside/outside, frequently required to bend and kneel and demonstrate equipment in the performance of the job duties.
Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening, auditing, inspecting, proofreading and evaluating. Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); develop and interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress.
Examination Information: Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be notified of the exact time and place of the examination. The examination process will consist of three parts: a written examination, performance assessment and/or interview, and record evaluation (for internal candidates only). Candidates must attain a minimum of 70% on all parts of the process, except 60% on the interview portion, to move forward in the process. Candidates that meet the minimum requirements and are selected to continue in the process will be sent an email notification for the written test. If applicable, a list of study resources is attached to this posting.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Written 50%, Performance Assessment or Interview 35%, Record Evaluation 15%. The Record Evaluation score will not be considered if the candidate does not reach the minimum score for each assessment (Written, Performance Assessment, or Interview) of the selection process.
For internal candidates: All assessment components of the selection process must reach a minimum score before the Record Evaluation score is considered. All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion. Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:
- 5 or more absence occurrences
- 2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions
- 3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)
- 5 or more misses (regardless of whether they are active or not active)
- 4 or more active tardies
- Drug or alcohol suspension
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) suspension
- Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
All completed eligibility certifications must be submitted no later than the first test associated with the selection process. Any internal candidate to who is at or above the thresholds listed above will not receive the points for their Eligibility Certification.
Additional Information: The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position. The position is also safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Any internal candidate who meets any of the above criteria will not receive the 15% for the Record Evaluation.
