ABOUT GALT
Incorporated in 1946, Galt is a growing community with approximately 26,000 residents located approximately 20 miles south of Sacramento along Highway 99. The City is led by five elected council members, the Mayor being appointed.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Galt is currently accepting applications for
CUSTODIAN I/II

The Public Works Department is seeking an individual who is reliable, trustworthy and is able to work independently to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Ideal candidates will have experience in maintenance, repair, and installation work. Incumbents will access secured buildings and therefore, must pass a federal security background check.

Under direct supervision, employees in this “at-will” classification perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the area of custodial/janitorial services.

Supervision Received and Exercised: Receives general supervision from Facilities Supervisor or Public Works Maintenance Manager. Ability to work independently as some of the work schedules are shift work and performing duties during closed City business operations hours. The level II of this classification may exercise general supervision of lower level staff and/or volunteers.

Example of Duties

Performs variety of janitorial/custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe buildings, and grounds.
Duties such as vacuuming rugs, sweeps, mops floors using light to heavy industrial-type equipment.
Clean and sanitize office furniture, dusts ledges and countertops; empties waste baskets, disposing of trash and recycling waste appropriately.
Cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, walls and ceiling fixtures.
May be required to move and set up tables, chairs and other equipment as required for events.
Maintains restrooms in clean and sanitary condition including disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, sinks and toilet bowls, replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue and soap.
Cleans mirrors and water fountains.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Some experience in maintenance, repair, and installation work is highly desirable. Requires possession of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Must pass federal security background check, for secured building access areas.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:

Must be willing to work in varying weather conditions, although predominantly the work is indoors; must be available for evening, weekend or other shift work.

Physical Demands:

Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform physical work including: frequent standing for long periods of time; frequent walking, bending and squatting; frequent lifting or moving of objects from 30 to 50 pounds; constant use of overall vision; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. Must be willing to work in varying weather conditions with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as exposure to chemicals, fumes and other environmental substances.

Medical - The City of Galt participates in the CalPERS Health Program. Part Time employees have a wide variety of choices of HMOs and PPOs and receive a set dollar amount for benefits(cafeteria plan). City’s contribution for medical benefits for part-time employees shall be in accordance with the California Government Code Section 22892 of the Public Employees' Medical and Hospital Care Act (PEMHCA) which establishes the City’s minimum health premium contribution.

2022 - Maximum City Medical Contribution
For Part-Time Employe the City pays $149 towards the medical premium. Employee pays the remaining medical premium.

Retirement Plan
The City's retirement program through the California Public Employee's Retirement System (“CalPERS”) is available to employees as provided in the contract between the City and PERS and in Government Code Section 20300, et. seq.

Social Security Program
The City participates in the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) for full time and part-time employees. The FICA tax consists of both Social Security and Medicare taxes, which are paid both by the employee and the City of Galt. Employees pay half through payroll deduction and the City of Galt pays the other half totaling fifteen and three tenths percent (15.3%.)

Deferred Compensation - Voluntary deferred compensation plan through TIAA. The employee may elect to have any amount of money up to the legal limit withheld from their regular paycheck and placed in a deferred compensation plan in accordance with Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Paid Time Off (PTO) -Part time employees accrue (PTO) beginning their first day of employment with the City in accordance with the chart below:

State Disability Income Insurance
