Shop Janitor Position Purpose

Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment, ensuring the functionality and longevity of our equipment and work area by keeping the shop free of debris, spills, and clutter.

Shop Janitor Essential Functions

Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
Maintains shop cleanliness:
- o Sweeps, mops, vacuums floors throughout the shop
- o Cleans work surfaces, benches, equipment, and aprons
- o Maintains the cleanliness of the shop bathroom
- o Maintains the cleanliness and organization of rigging connexes
- o Disposes of waste solids according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Ensures shop functionality and safety:
- o Keeps shop refrigerators stocked with water
- o Maintains cleanliness of waste oil tank, waste oil pigs, and drain pans
- o Ensures gas cylinders are capped and stored properly, verifying no blockage exists in front of them
- o Clears obstructions from electrical panels, fire extinguishers, and eye wash stations
- o Reports any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor
Maintains organization and proper storage
- o Stores and organizes PPE and shop supplies
- o Maintains proper storage of seasonal equipment (e.g., torpedo heaters, portable coolers, water hoses)
Additional duties
- o Maintains cleanliness of walkways and doors
- o Reports any safety hazards to the supervisor
Consistent and reliable on-site attendance
Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Shop Janitor Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent
Six (6) months experience in a fast-paced industrial cleaning environment, prior experience maintaining cleanliness in a workshop or industrial setting is a plus
Ability to operate and maintain floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and other janitorial equipment commonly used in industrial settings
Ability to work independently and efficiently, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively
Knowledge and understanding of industrial cleaning practices, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals and procedures

Shop Janitor Physical Requirements

Pushes/Pulls/Lifts/Carries up to 50 pounds without assistance
Physical ability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
Must be able to work in extreme heat or cold and wet, damp, dusty, or windy conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises, hazardous materials, and fumes/odors
Physical ability to perform maintenance on equipment for extended hours of time with continual mounting and dismounting throughout the workday
Ability to adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition
