Position will be open until filled. We are currently seeking: A meter service representative who, under general supervision, connects and disconnects water utility service in accordance with work orders; replaces damaged and defective water utility meters; provides customer services to citizens by responding to customer inquiries and complaints concerning utility service policy, regulations and rates charged; reports any violations of policy and regulations governing utility consumption; observes and reports any utility service problems or potential problems such as service irregularities; checks for water leaks and damage around meter and meter box; keeps meter box and valve areas clean and unobstructed by cleaning overgrowth and debris; checks to see that meters are registering properly and verifies irregular meter readings; utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; operates vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair; completes daily work log; and reports City code violations to supervisor. Your responsibilities will include: Reading water meters and accurately writing numbers on work orders or inputting numbers into handheld computer device. Checking meter reading for possible discrepancies or initial meter malfunctions. Installing and troubleshooting automated meter reading devices; cleaning out meter boxes using shovels, hands, and other types of equipment. Disconnecting and installing meters as trained and qualified. Terminating and/or connecting water utility services. Driving safely in assigned company vehicles. Interacting with internal departments and company employees to ensure an efficient overall process. Promoting a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization throughout the department. Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; with some overtime. Regular and timely attendance is required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Required Licenses or Certifications: A valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record is required. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors requiring constant physical effort when required to walk assigned routes. Must be able to work within confined areas at times and in inclement weather and temperature extremes. Must have the ability to perform physically demanding job-related activities.
