Housing & Food Services has an outstanding opportunity for a TemporaryCustodian (Nights) to join their team.
Position Purpose
Serve as a team member, performing custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities. Provide customer service for residential students and conferences.
Description of Duties
- Cleaning and sanitizing kitchens, dining rooms and offices in accordance with established procedures and standards.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispenser.
- Sweeping, moping and vacuuming floors; emptying wastebaskets, trash and recycle containers; replacing light bulbs.
- Dusting and cleaning walls, doors, windows, woodwork, furniture, etc.
- Stripping, cleaning, buffing and applying finish to floors; using high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuuming and cleaning carpets.
- Using and maintaining assigned power equipment and hand tools such as a vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, or ladder for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
- Vacuuming furniture, drapery and walls.
- Securing building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; reporting unauthorized occupants.
- Set up and take down equipment such as chalkboards and easels and furnishings such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, conferences and events.
- Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Report need for repairs and maintenance.
- May operate high-pressure washer.
- Perform cleaning and related duties in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or to sweep sidewalks or stairs.
- Drive University vehicles to deliver items and commute to various HFS locations in or around campus
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Physical ability to perform work and one year of experience as a custodian, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Desirable Qualifications
Competitive candidates will possess experience that demonstrates:
- Ability to work nights
- Ability to understand and produce written and verbal instructions in English
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate in a variety of situations
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Successful as a Custodian or housekeeper.
- An eye for detail
- Dedication to a high level of customer satisfaction
- Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver’s License
Conditions of Employment
- A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.
Additional Requirements include:
- Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
- A valid Washington State Driver's License may be required.
* Custodians may be assigned to work in a residence hall, apartment complex, office/work area or UW Dining facility.
