Role and Responsibilities:
The Custodian/Janitor will be responsible for a wide range of custodial tasks, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning restrooms. Additionally, the Janitor/ Custodian will maintain cleanliness in offices, meeting rooms, and recreational facilities: mop tile and concrete floor areas, vacuum carpets, and use appropriate equipment for floor washing and buffing.
- Work with a team that is primarily composed of individuals with disabilities.
- Ensure adequate stock of paper and soap supplies in restrooms.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on custodial equipment and supplies to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
- Thoroughly dust all furniture and fixtures as needed.
- Clean, wash, and disinfect drinking fountains, washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers, and fixtures.
- Empty trash receptacles, dispose of trash in compactors or dumpsters, and manage outside storage bins.
- Ensure cleanliness of entrance and exit areas, including glass, doors, and hardware.
- Keep outside areas near exits and entrances clear of debris and snow.
- Report maintenance needs, damages, acts of vandalism, and concerns to the appropriate staff.
- Submit or recommend work orders as necessary.
- Monitor and manage supply levels.
- Promote workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Requirements:
- No Experience, No Problem!
- Minimum of (1) year Custodial or Janitorial Experience (Preferred)
- Ability to work directly with disabled individuals.
Physical Demands:
The Custodian position is a physically demanding position. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to use to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls. The incumbent must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating medium-weight equipment. The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stretching and bending, often in awkward positions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
Environmental Demands:
Custodian will encounter potentially hazardous cleaning products and chemicals. We prioritize safety and provide comprehensive training to minimize risks. Additionally, janitors may occasionally meet bodily fluids, and we supply protective equipment for their safety. Maintaining personal hygiene is paramount to prevent exposure to communicable diseases.
