Being a Trainer at Pressed Roots, means that you have mastered the art of textured hair. Pressed Roots is a place where everyone is passionate about making everyone around them feel seen, beautiful, and comfortable. This includes their coworkers and their clients. Our Trainers at Pressed Roots are guiding and leading our stylist in serving up the best silk blowouts in town, while also providing a professional, memorable, luxury experience.
Roles & Responsibilities
- 40 hour week training schedule consists of:
- Facilitates stylist cohort training in the Houston training center, including technical hair training, product education, and partners with the shop leadership team to train on operational processes such as barbicide, the Tab and sanitation.
- New Hire Onboarding
- New Hire Acclimation Mentoring and Reporting
- Audits / Weekly stylist reporting
- General Technical leadership/coaching
- Team meetings
- Continued Education
- Demos/ Brand Building Events + content creation
- Facilitates quarterly technical audits in partnership with the leadership team
- Offers extended education classes to their location and creates the curriculum in partnership with the Training Department.
- Hosts advanced training for those stylists with client complaints or challenges with timing, technical skills etc.
- De-escalates hair quality issues within the shop in partnership with the shop leadership team by providing coaching and up-training to team members as needed.
- Participates in all scheduled meetings and training hosted by the Training Department as well as responding to all Pressed Roots emails in a timely manner.
- Abides by all Master Stylist roles and responsibilities:
Requirements
- Valid Texas cosmetology license
- Must always effectively and consistently use the Pressed Roots Method to produce Silk blowouts at Pressed Roots
- Must work at least 30 hours per week on average
- Allow new stylists to shadow you
- Help educate on the Pressed Roots Method
- Answer questions about product usage, and provide any tips and tricks that may be useful
Essential Functions
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 9 hours)
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions to demonstrate styling techniques, such as holding and manipulating blow dryers, round brushes, flat irons, and scissors
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds
- Ability to reach overhead to perform styling & cleaning tasks
- Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel to access styling tools, assist customers/staff, and/or maintain Studio cleanliness

Necessary Job Skills & Abilities
- Educating team members and potential team members by providing the information needed to make educated decisions on how to care for textured hair and maintain its integrity. Provides feedback in the moment to help maintain an awareness for each team member on their skill level and places of improvement, is giving and receiving information to the leadership team, recruiting team and stylist team in a timely manner
- Technical and Presentation skills: has the ability to perform demonstrations and training in a group setting, providing the knowledge and technical training each individual needs to be successful in the Pressed Roots environment
- Motivational and Inspirational: sets a tone within the salon by setting the example and abiding by all Pressed Roots policies and expectations including but not limited to the Pressed Roots Methodology, the dress code, time and attendance, etc. Must be inviting and helpful and foster an environment where people want to be the best versions of themselves.
- Maintain all the skill sets and abilities in the Master Stylist description:
- Emulate patience and amazing customer service - even amongst the most difficult of customer scenarios
- Positive attitude, energy
- Full knowledge and practice of TDLR safety and cleanliness standards
- Includes but not limited to: maintaining a clean work station, cleaning up after you and your clients, cleaning tools and environment with barbicide between each client, etc
- Reliability to arrive early and fully complete cohort trainings
- Basic knowledge and use of Google Drive, Google calendar and emails
