Job Summary: Ensures cleanliness, safety, and good order of church facilities, building, and grounds by performing routine custodial and maintenance tasks.
Supervised by: Pastor
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains and cleans church facility, including parking area
- Keeps congregational and work areas neat, clean, and in good order
- Creates a welcoming environment for the congregation and church visitors of all ages
- Ensures the cleanliness and appearance of offices, facilities, and furnishings by performing manual cleaning tasks including sweeping, dusting, mopping and vacuuming floors
- Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, and other fixtures
- Washes and cleans doors and windows
- Performs daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks by utilizing dust cloths, mops, pails, brooms, and various cleaning agents
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including floors, toilets, sinks, walls, mirrors, and other fixtures
- Cleans and sanitizes water fountains and kitchen facilities
- Replenishes soap, paper, and other restroom and kitchen supplies
- Promptly reports visible damages, maintenance issues, and unsafe conditions with electrical, lighting, HVAC, security, emergency, and mechanical systems to the Pastor
- Perform basic repairs to facility and equipment as necessary
- Set up and tear down for worship services, and for other community and church-related gatherings
- Monitor supplies and notify office when re-ordering is needed
- Remove snow, leaves, and other debris from church entrances
- Have all trash and recycling bagged and ready for pickup on trash day
- Refill all dispensers, supply towels, soap, etc.
- Works with vendors to arrange repairs, builds relationships with vendors, and assists contractors on-site as needed
- Completes daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance per schedule
- Other related duties as assigned by pastoral staff
- Serve as an emergency contact for alarm company
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of job-related experience
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Sundays each week, and evenings and weekends as needed
- State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or demonstrable ability to gain access to worksite
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard maintenance methods, materials, equipment, and supplies, as well as chemicals, cleaning agents, and common safety practices
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including ability to understand and follow general instructions
- Dependable work habits including attitude, attendance, and initiative
- Ability to act and work independently, showing good judgement
- Competent computer, email, internet, and keyboarding skills
- Proficient in planning and prioritizing work, with excellent multi-tasking skills
- Demonstrates poise and maintains composure in all situations
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
- Self-motivated to identify areas in need of maintenance and/or cleaning and determine appropriate work method
- Skilled in planning, scheduling, and organizing work, and operating standard maintenance equipment
- Strong attention to detail, even when performing tedious and repetitive tasks
- Ability to maintain flexibility, including the willingness and ability to learn new technology, techniques and methods
- Physical agility and stamina to lift 50 pounds; ability to mount ladder and work overhead
- Ability to provide own transportation in fulfillment of job duties
