MANAGER, FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYSIS

POSITON:
San Diego FC is seeking a highly analytical Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis. The FP&A Manager will support the financial planning and analysis function for all Club and Academy operations, driving key financial initiatives to improve performance and growth. This role will be responsible for analysis, forecasting, and maintaining robust financial models to aid in strategic decision-making. The FP&A Manager will collaborate with various departments, including operations, football, marketing, and ticketing, ensuring financial transparency and data-driven decisions that support the team’s short and long-term objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Analyze revenue streams, operational costs, and profitability, including ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise, and game-day operations.
- Track key performance metrics (KPIs) and provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
Forecasting & Budgeting:
- Assist with annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to set and track financial targets.
- Develop, maintain, and update financial models to forecast revenue, expenses, and profitability for the team.
- Provide ongoing variance analysis between budget/forecasts and actual performance.
Strategic Financial Modeling:
- Build and maintain financial models to evaluate business initiatives, such as new sponsorship deals, stadium improvements, and player acquisitions.
- Develop long-term financial projections to assist in decision-making at the executive and ownership level.
- Collaborate with the Head of Football Strategy to analyze player contract costs, salary cap implications, and transfer windows.
Process Improvement & Tools:
- Improve financial processes by implementing new tools, systems, and methodologies for better data collection and reporting.
- Maintain and enhance financial planning software and modeling tools.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Partner with operations, football, sales, marketing, and soccer operations departments to ensure financial accuracy and support decision-making.
- Support various business initiatives and provide financial insights for key projects, such as stadium enhancements, community outreach programs, and event planning.
Ad Hoc Projects:
- Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and modeling as requested by the CFO, executive leadership, or ownership.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in financial planning & analysis (FP&A), preferably in sports, entertainment, or a related industry.
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial planning software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and communicate with non-finance personnel.
- Knowledge of the soccer industry or professional sports is a plus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with sports finance, including familiarity with player contracts, salary cap, and sponsorship revenue streams.
