Summary: The Food Prep/Kitchen Assistant position will be full-time. Under the direction of the Director of Food and Nutrition Services, this position supports the full range of kitchen operations, which may include the transportation of meal service components according to federal, state, and local requirements.

Qualifications: Education: Required: High School diploma or GED. Food Handler Certification training is preferred; if not already certified, training must be completed within 60 days from the hire date.
Experience:
o Minimum of one year experience in preparing meals for 60 or more people daily for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks.
o Basic fundamental knowledge of quantity food production, portion control, and quality assurance.
o Knowledge of foods and nutrition, methods and techniques of quantity food cooking, operation, and care of kitchen equipment preferred
. o Working knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and email.
Required Credentials:
- Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must be able to obtain a driver’s physical exam required by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) within 30 days of employment. CPR/First Aid Certification is preferable, but I will train to obtain certification.
- All employees must pass a background screening and drug test for employment.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day. The employee must be able to lift and/or move at least 40 lbs. Responsibilities:
- Follows and implements current USDA Childcare Feeding Program rules and regulations (through the USDA CCFP training program). In the preparation of meals.
- Delivers meals and serving items to the classroom teachers at mealtime to ensure accurate portion sizes using correct serving utensils, scoops, and ladles. Collects dishes and leftover food from classrooms.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food storage areas throughout.
- Cleans and sanitizes prep and other areas daily.
- Follows and implements Department of Children and Families (DCF) policies and procedures.
- Follows and implements National Accreditation Commission (NAC) policies and procedures
- Performs simple janitorial tasks like cleaning the kitchen, sweeping, and mopping.
- Complies with Easter Seals policies and procedures utilizing the highest personal and professional ethics and behavior standards. Demonstrates good judgment, diplomacy, courtesy, and effective communication while working at Easter Seals or representing the organization.
- Sort food for delivery to sites (when applicable), and classrooms, adhering to recommended portion size based on age group and family-style meal service.
- Other duties as assigned.
