The primary responsibility of your job position is to perform day-to-day activities of the Laundry Department following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. You are entrusted to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
- Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services when performing routine assignments.
- Collect soiled laundry (linens and clothing) from all living and medical units.
- Sort unwashed articles by color and fabric and tracks all items collected.
- Report any shortages or discrepancies in counts to the Housekeeper.
- Load and unload automatic washing and drying machines; wash, fold, and place clean articles on racks by units.
- Press/iron garments as instructed.
- Clean floors and walls (sweeping, mopping, dusting, spot cleaning).
- Clean work/supply carts, equipment, supplies, etc., as requested.
- Maintain accurate record of all in-coming and out-going clothing items
- File laundry sheets and request records for future reference.
- Routinely handle chemicals commonly used in laundry and performs custodial duties in the laundry area.
- Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
- Wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
- Attend and participate in facility mandatory in-service training programs as scheduled.
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information including protected health information.
- Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain an appearance of laundry areas, for sanitation, order, and safety
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions concerning the mixing of cleaning compounds, liquids, disinfectant solutions, etc
- Perform all other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education
- On-the-job training provided
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Works in all areas of the facility
- Moves intermittently during working hours
- Is subject to frequent interruptions
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc
- Communicates with the laundry personnel
- Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
- Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs
- May be required to work on shifts other than the one which hired
- Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
- Maintains a liaison with other department directors to adequately plan for food services/activities

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a mental and physical examination
- Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
