POSITION TITLE: Saw Operator
REPORTS TO: Production Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: Operates CNC saw(s) (including hem-saws, band saws etc.) to cut raw stock to sizes specified on routers in preparation for following machining operations. Moves material to appropriate staging areas. Supports various projects on occasion per supervisor’s direction.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Sets up and operates saw(s) to cut raw stock (typically aluminum, steel, or plastic) to sizes specified on routers in preparation for following machining operations.
· Reads and interprets drawings, process sheets, sketches, and related technical data to operate computer numerical controlled saw(s).
· Inspects and turns in first-articles for saw operations to Quality Assurance Department.
· Removes sharp edges from cut material in preparation for following machining operations.
· Cleans machine, chip trays, tooling, and parts and maintains lubricant and coolant fluid levels in saw(s). Notifies supervisor if machine(s) needs maintenance.
· Coordinates coolant concentration data collection for full plant, gives feedback to CNC machinists on adjustment of coolant concentration levels, keeps detailed records.
· Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
· Inspects and measures parts to maintain part tolerance during the run cycle.
· Operates forklift, or uses hand truck or pallet jack to move, convey or hoist shipments from delivering carrier into receiving area, and then to proper storage or work area.
· Assists Shipping Department or company drivers to load/unload parts.
· Keeps Receiving and Saw area organized, including pallet management (arranges for broken or non-standard pallets to be disposed of).
· Supports various cleaning/maintenance/other projects as assigned by supervisor.
· Meets daily 6S activities.
· Works independently, but as part of a team, with minimal oversight.
· Attends work in person, on time, on a regular and reliable basis.
· Completes all tasks in an accurate, complete and timely manner. Is detail oriented.
· Follows directions. Asks questions to clarify if needs more information.
· Follows all safety protocols, helps others follow all safety protocols and alerts their supervisor or management to any safety risks that are discovered.
· Follows and maintains compliance to R B Standards document.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Training and Experience: High school education or work experience. Certified to drive forklifts.
· Quality Control. Knowledge and ability to use common quality control techniques and instruments to inspect work pieces to a drawing, and/or router.
· Reading and Comprehension: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, packing instruction sheets, receiving packing slips, etc. in written and oral form. Additionally, ability to interpret and understand instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram, blue-print, or schedule form, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings etc.
· Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
· Computer Skills: Ability to enter and retrieve data relevant to job function from computer using company ERP system and other software.
· Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
· Physical Demands: The employee is required to:
- lift up to 60 pounds on a regular basis,
- stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor,
- exert 20 to 60 pounds of force occasionally,
- exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently,
- exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects,
- work in sometimes awkward positions
· Visual Acuity: Ability to read information from blueprints, computer screen, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.
· Communication: Ability to understand and be understood in communications with others.
· Working Conditions: The employee is subject to:
- high noise levels from operating machines
- physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
- breathing fumes, dust and mist
- skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.29 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
