Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director/Supervisor the Custodian will be primarily responsible for maintaining a clean and safe facilities, classroom(s) and playground(s). The Custodian will assist in building and maintaining trusting, collaborative relationships between parents of ECE programs and BSR staff by sharing with and learning from one another.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Custodian job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment in the facilities and classrooms by performing all custodial services such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, restocking of supplies, disinfecting surfaces, trash disposal, restrooms and grounds of BSR properties.
- Maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment in outside areas (playground, around the exterior of the facilities) by performing duties including sweeping, raking, picking up trash, wiping down outside play equipment and supplies.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn and use correctly different types or uses of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Assist in explaining the BSR ECE Department’s programs and its goals to the families of the BSR community.
- Observe classroom experiences to become familiar with the children.
- Record all contacts with parents participating or interested in BSR ECE programs.
- Become aware of family needs and or problems and consult with the director and/or Supervisor.
- Attend all BSR ECE Department meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of all records and information.
- Attend training conference/meetings with BSR staff to keep abreast of current requirements.
- Must serve as a role model for ECE Program participants, parent/guardian, and community service workers.
- Assists with BSR Emergency Operations, when required.
- All other duties as assigned.
JOB POSITION REQUIRES:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid California Driver’s License and be insurable to drive.
- Any combination of training and or experience, which demonstrates a potential to perform the duties of the position.
- Possessing skills in working with a diverse group of BSR community residents.
- Current physical exam, tuberculosis test clearance.
- Agreement to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and background check prior to employment.
- Knowledge, experience or special interest in American Indian Culture.
- Strong, respectful communication, both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and knowledge to work with 3 to 5-year-old children and their families.
- Having sensitivity to the Native American culture, tradition and BSR community’s health, education, and welfare
- Good writing and organization skills and ability to organize, maintain and submit records and reports if needed.
- Having a good understanding and working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
- The ability to work independently and support a team environment.
- The ability to present information one-on-one, to small groups and to the BSR.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Travel may be required.
