GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Restroom Attendant /Homeless Community in-reach staff is a new position that The Midnight Mission deems vital to providing a safe, clean, secure, trauma-free restroom for people who are experiencing homelessness on the streets of skid-row. The restrooms will be in use 24 hours 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Security, provide a safe, clean, secure trauma-free restroom and perform various janitorial cleaning duties within The Midnight Mission courtyard and adjacent restrooms. Sweep and mop floors, collect and dispose of trash, re-stock dispensers as needed, wash walls, clean and sanitize face bowls, urinals, toilets and showers after each use, and provide towels and hygiene items to guests showering. Provide friendly customer service to guests' inquiries. Ensure restrooms are not being used for inappropriate activities such as drug use or sells, smoking, loitering, or other activities. Report suspicious individuals and/or activity to Security staff posted immediately outside the restroom area and the Supervisor. Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of general janitorial skills and cleaning techniques
- Ability to project a professional demeanor and exercise mature judgement
- Engagement and rapport building skills with difficult guests
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge about non-violent crisis intervention techniques
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned duties with minimum supervision.
- Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment that requires sensitivity and professionalism
- Availability to work evening and weekends as requested by management, and based on the operational needs of the program
- Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively as a team player.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English must be able to read words and phrases in English on cleaning supply containers and floor applications, etc.
- Ability to arrive to work reliably and on time
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and/or directions.
Required Qualifications
- Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9 and valid California ID or Drivers License)
- Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Updated TB test
- Successful completion of background screening including Live-scan or comparable

- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid through TMM
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential functions of the job the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, talk, smell, view persons in need, hear, reach above and below shoulders; use hand and finger dexterity, occasional keyboarding, making and receiving telephone calls, making and receiving text messages, and making and receiving radio calls.
Work Environment
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health and safety practices. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the clients use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. The noise level in the work environment has a wide range depending upon the individuals using the restroom and the external environment. Sometimes work may become stressful when working under pressure.
