GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs moderately heavy manual work in cleaning and maintaining the appearance of City facilities within the Parks & Recreation department; may operate a City vehicle to travel to various locations throughout the City to perform required work. Accountable to and works under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Performs moderately heavy manual work in cleaning and maintaining the appearance of City facilities.
- May operate a city vehicle to travel to various locations throughout the City to perform required work.
- Scrubs, mops, waxes and polishes floors.
- Dusts and polishes furniture.
- Washes windows, woodwork, toilets, washrooms, and fixtures in buildings.
- Collects trash and litter from buildings and grounds; disposes of trash and litter collected.
- Assists in making other minor repairs to buildings and equipment as necessary.
- Moves office furniture and equipment from place to place as required.
- Sets up and takes down furniture and equipment for special programs and events.
- Refills paper towels and soap dispensers in washrooms and work areas.
- Sweeps and generally cleans sidewalks and other outside areas near buildings.
- Assists in monitoring the facility and coordinating customers’ needs during events/functions; exhibits excellent customer skills while performing work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Active FL Driver’s License
- Pass Police Department background check
- One year experience in custodial work
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:
- Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in custodial work.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
- Ability to carry out tasks without constant supervision.
- Physical agility, strength and flexibility sufficient to perform the essential job functions of a custodian without risking the health or safety of oneself or others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- One year experience in custodial work.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
- A comparable amount of education, training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
LICENSES, CERIFICATES OR REGISTERATION:
- Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrective lenses).
- Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
- Ability to lift heavy objects.
- Must have the physical ability, strength, and flexibility to perform the job functions in the work environment. Requires physical strength and agility sufficient to safely perform heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, standing, squatting and use of all manual and electric tools required to complete all work assignments.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- The job risks occasional exposures to dust and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, and noxious odors, and vehicular traffic.
