JOB SUMMARY
Establishes and maintains a thoroughly hygienic environment for the facility including grounds. Maintains the facility’s Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) and Master Sanitation Program in compliance with all regulatory and company requirements. Manages their assigned duties in the areas of sanitation, janitorial, of the facility, including the facility recycling program. As a key team member, liaisons with all departments to support departmental compliance needs with the company’s quality program; related activities include but are not limited to team meeting participation, writing policies and procedures, and implementing new policies and procedures as dictated by the company’s quality program. Must be able to conduct root cause analysis and provide timely feedback with solutions to Operations and Quality teams of nonconformance. Ensures that all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Safety policies & procedures, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures are being followed. Maintain all required documentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Responsible for development, implementation & maintenance of facility master sanitation program with efficient organized sanitation operations in each of the departmental areas focusing on meeting or exceeding company and/or facility quality standards in the areas of GMP’s, facilities and grounds, pest control, sanitation, janitorial.
- Works closely with departmental managers and supervisors regarding proper departmental support and priorities.
- Develops Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Clean In Process (CIP’s), Clean Out of Place (COP’s) procedures, the Master Sanitation Schedule, and all associated support documentation.
- Leads in department preparation for both internal and external audits and is an active member of audit processes.
- Review and sign off on all daily sanitation records.
- Manages identification, inventory, monitoring, labeling, use, handling and storage of all chemical substances for use by the facility in both production and non-production areas in liaison with all departments and vendors.
- Manages janitorial activities to insure hallways, rest rooms, offices, and other work areas.
- Manages trash and waste processes to the disposal and compactor areas, including reusable scrap pickup and designated container storage for salvage.
- Responsible for written facility master sanitation schedule and any associated company policies or procedures needed to support the program.
- Conduct comprehensive inspection of the facility to identify compliance and not compliance of sanitation regulation and safe food handling practices.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems with equipment, processes, people (technical skills).
- Member of HACCP team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None. However, supervisory skills are useful in interactions with clients and co-workers. Interacts with the following departments on a regular basis:
- Quality Assurance
- Manufacturing
- Plant Maintenance
- Human Resources
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated dependability and self-motivation.
- Experience in chemical handling and usage
- Proficient in computers and literate in MS Word and Excel
- Work with department manager to develop annual sanitation requirements and programs.
- Must be experienced in facility operations.
- Must be skilled in technical writing and have achieved, either by education, formal training or a combination of these, the ability to read, understand English language and translate information in English to professional documents.
- Must be well organized and capable of achieving a high level of organization in the company’s documentation systems.
- Must work well with others and coordinate production with co-workers.
- Work with minimum supervision.
- Must be able to assist with problem solving activities on any shift.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: High School Diploma and minimum 2 years Sanitation experience.
At least 1 year experience in a food-processing environment preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. All of this communication both written and oral required to be in English. Bi-lingual (English Spanish) preferred.
