POSITION TITLE: Unlicensed Staff/Resident Assistant
HOURS: Full & Part Time All Shifts
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Clinical Services
Director of Housing Services
Licensed Assisted Living nurses (RN & LPN)
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing personal care and designated services designed to maintain the tenant’s physical, mental, social, spiritual, emotional and vocational well being.
RESPONSIBLITIES, DUTIES:
- Assist the tenant with personal cares which may include all or some of the following:
- Shampooing of hair, assist with showering, rubbing with lotions, fingernail cares, perineal/incontinence cares, assisting with soiled incontinence products and foot cares if instructed to do so, medication administration, redirection of a confused resident, and other cares as assigned.
- Assist with redirecting confused/agitated clients.
- Assist with dressing, grooming and oral cares as assigned.
- Assist in use of hearing aids, glasses, dentures, prosthetics or other devices/tools intended to enable tenants to achieve optimum level of functioning.
- Help each tenant to reach and maintain the highest level of performance and independence.
- Assist or lead tenant exercises, activities &/or outings as scheduled or assigned.
- Observe tenant and report changes in condition or abilities.
- Serve meals as directed following special meal plans if instructed, wash pots, pans and dishes.
- Attend or complete in-service training as assigned.
- Cooperates and participates in timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled cleaning tasks in public and private areas.
- Perform household chores when the tenant’s care requires the prevention of exposure to infectious disease or containment of infectious disease.
- Laundry, including tenants’ clothing and linens.
- Complete written and/or computer documentation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and documentation on each tenant.
- Ability to effectively present information on one-to-one and small group situations to customers, tenants, supervisor and other employees of the organization.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be willing to accept instruction and direction from supervisor.
- Must understand and communicate clearly with co-workers.
- Must be punctual, with a good attendance record.
- Must be mature and emotionally stable using calm and kind tone of voice, remaining calm in difficult or unusual circumstances.
- Promote independence, not dependence, with residents offering choices and fostering self-help skills.
- Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
- Must be willing to learn and be open to new ideas.
- Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.
- Must work as a team member with other personnel, supervisor and RN.
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
