JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To provide direction and leadership in the area of custodial, carpet cleaning and security services so that all students and district employees have a safe, clean and effective environment in which to learn and work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in management or a facilities operations related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in custodial or related work and at least two (2) years in supervision.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful management experience in similar areas may be substituted for the college degree.
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions form administrators, staff or the general public. Ability to operate a vehicle. Ability to climb stairs, ladders. Ability to compute dilution ratios of chemicals. Working knowledge of cost center budget. Ability to enter requisitions and budget amendments. Ability to solve problems among a diverse group of people. Ability to interpret known needs and/or request into a feasible and workable solution. Ability to effectively use the Work Order System to manage workload and make future plans. Ability to recognize and plan for long range District needs. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all of the district requirements and School Board policies.

SUPERVISES:
Custodians as assigned
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in delivering a comprehensive custodial service program that includes, a centralization model, technical training, personnel assessment, site assessment, planning, personnel advancement, and measurements of program progress.
- Provide District-wide training in all custodial procedures and duties for all responsible employees and administrators.
- Develop, publish and distribute School Board based training materials.
- Provide any needed assistance to the on-site administrators and custodial staff and conduct training.
- Receive and coordinate work orders submitted for operations based staff.
- Perform as Custodial Manager for county school system during evening hours when primary cleaning activity is conducted.
- Make key on-the-spot management decisions for Custodial Supervisor and keep Supervisor informed of impending management issues which need to be resolved.
- Assist Custodial Supervisor by developing custodial work schedules, or reviewing same, for individual fairness, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Follow up inspection reports to ensure that proper corrective action has been taken.
- Notify officials when unsafe conditions appear.
- Assist schools to ensure that custodial personnel conduct the proper custodial care and maintenance of a facility.
- Responsible for field testing, evaluation, training of chemical product lines
- Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Represent the district in a positive and professional manner.
- Keep informed and disseminate information about current research, trends and best practices in areas of responsibility.
- Develop annual goals and objectives consistent with and in support of district goals and priorities.
- Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the district.
- Maintain expertise in assigned areas to fulfill project goals and objectives.
- Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities in assigned areas.
- Attend training sessions, conferences and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues.
- Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
- Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services and evaluation of services provided.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action.
- Work closely with the Energy Manager and assist with implementation of the Energy Management Programs.
- Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
