POSITION SUMMARY
This position contributes to the success of our students and communities by maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and order of all areas in Housing & Residential Education. This includes care of individual student rooms, suites, apartments, restrooms, multi-purpose spaces, offices, entries and ground or other areas assigned by supervisor to meet department standards.
This position typically reports to a Sr. Resident Community Custodian, Custodial Supervisor, Custodial Superintendent, or other higher level maintenance position. This is a position requiring basic skills that can be acquired through on the job training. This job requires physical abilities such as trunk strength, manual dexterity, and wrist-finger movement in order to perform the essential functions of the position. This position receives direct supervision and specific guidance with regard to the areas or buildings to be cleaned and the timeliness in which these duties are to be performed. This direction is the responsibility of the Sr. Resident Community Custodian, Custodial Supervisor, or Custodial Superintendent. This position comes into contact with co-workers, his/her supervisor and may come into contact with occupants or visitors of a building such as students, staff members, faculty, police officers, etc. depending on the shift of the employee. This position requires knowledge of appropriate chemical handling and use of cleaning chemicals, which is learned on the job and through training.
DUTIES
Clean and sanitize residential and public bathrooms to include, sinks, faucets, urinals, showers, toilets, vanities, vents, windows, walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, mirrors, doors, sanitary bins, light fixtures, stalls and replenishing of supplies and materials as needed.
Maintain cleanliness of common areas and other spaces such as lounges, multi-purpose rooms, offices, study areas, conference rooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, corridors, stairwells, elevators and dumpster enclosures. Responsibilities include furniture, flooring, windows, white boards, water fountains, trash rooms and receptacles, vending machines, washers/dryers, appliances, closets, supply areas, handrails, shelving units, light fixtures, and exterior entrance ways/foyers.
Clean and prepare residential rooms and apartments to welcome new residents or as needed including floors, kitchens, bathrooms, closets, living rooms, ceilings fixtures, furniture, windows, ventilation, vanities, appliances, and doors.
Pull trash/recycling bags from receptacles inside and outside all complexes and carry bags/receptacles down stairwells, through buildings and into exterior dumpster enclosures. Move furniture, supplies, equipment in residential living spaces, offices, or supply areas, as needed.
Observe, report, and address any facility conditions that do not meet department standards or negatively impact residential experience. Share relevant information regarding resident behavior and use of space. Take ownership of assigned area and respond as essential personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires completion of the 9th grade. No specific experience required. A valid Florida Driver's License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated. Must be able to communicate in English.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
This position may require discarding or cleaning up of blood borne pathogens. However, direct contact with these items would occur infrequently.
