JOB TITLE: Custodian

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
SCHEDULE:
Hiring (2) people for 3:00pm-11:30pm, Monday - Friday, occasional Saturdays 5:00pm-9:00pm during the school year.
Over the summer, July - August, working hours will be from 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday - Friday.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- The Custodian position will require a high school diploma/GED.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
- Knowledge of use and custodial equipment and tools
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness
- Good physical condition and strength
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Ensure outdoor spaces cleanliness and safety during the day (includes taking out trash, pick-up items left out by students and tidying outdoor games) and prepare the campus for the next day.
- Restock disposables in bathrooms (e.g. Soap and Paper dispensers), and perform cleaning activities as necessary (vacuuming carpets, mopping, sweeping, washing, sanitizing bathrooms).
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Sweep, scrub, mop, clean and apply finish to floors of rooms, hallways, stairs; vacuum all carpet areas.
- Clean and dust walls, lockers, furniture and fixtures; clean white boards.
- Clean, wash and scrub all bathroom plumbing fixtures.
- Clean school facilities (classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, grounds) for the purpose of maintaining a clean and safe learning environment.
- Sweep sidewalks and asphalt areas, dispose of rubbish, clean and disinfect trash containers.
- Clean and monitor draining of drinking fountains.
- Recycle clean paper and break down box containers.
- Remove all trash and debris from the school campus as required to maintain an attractive school facility.
- Arrange necessary furnishings and equipment, in a timely manner, for all scheduled meetings, school events and classroom activities.
- Deliver a variety of large items (supplies, equipment, materials) to appropriate facility locations.
- Communicate with supervisor, site personnel and students regarding school activities, safety and maintenance of facilities; submit work order requests to designated site staff.
- Communicate daily with the Director of Operations about site cleaning, schedules; cleaning and safety needs; and facility use arrangements.
- Maintain custodial stock room and equipment, maintain stock of supplies and materials needed to complete projects and duties efficiently.
- Lock and unlock gates and doors; check for open windows; lock and unlock playground equipment; set alarms correctly; raise and lower flags; check hot water and room temperatures.
- Assist Maintenance and Operations Department as required to complete site projects and work activities.
- Make minor repairs to furniture, equipment and fixtures (i.e. replace light bulbs and diffusers, replace switch plates, chair and table glides).
- Use a computer to send and receive work related email; enter work absences and request substitutes.
- Comply with school approved Custodial Standards of Cleanliness and Safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

ABILITY TO:
- Use school approved cleaning agents, supplies, and equipment.
- Perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.

- Frequent to constant walking including walking on gravel or uneven surfaces.
- Frequent bending at neck, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling.
- Frequent to constant reaching overhead, above shoulder and horizontally to clean and dust.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Read, write and understand the English language.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and/or small group situations to other employees of the school.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice
- Current X-ray or tuberculin skin test before employment and every four years thereafter
- CPR certification required upon hiring
PAY: $18 - $20 per hour
