The Facilities Services Department is responsible for custodial services, grounds and landscaping, maintenance, repair of university vehicles, waste management and recycling, and the operation of the USF post office.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for assigning and overseeing the work of Custodial Workers, ensuring that all cleaning supplies for the shift are in order and ready for the team, and keeping USF in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. Senior Custodial Workers help to maintain the overall orderly appearance of designated USF facilities by ensuring that all cleaning work in a specific building(s) is done in an effective and efficient manner. Senior Custodial Workers are responsible for general and detailed cleaning of various campus buildings such as restrooms, medical clinics, education space (classrooms & labs), common areas, outdoor covered space, and offices. This position typically reports to a Superintendent or Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans the cleaning schedule for the shift, assigns each Custodial Worker to an area, and makes any adjustments as needed. Gathers appropriate supplies and cleaning materials and ensures that any motorized vehicles are in good, operative condition for the shift, or oversees this responsibility. Continually monitors Custodial Workers throughout the shift to resolve any problems that arise, ensure cleaning duties are being completed in a timely manner. Responsible for ensuring that buildings are secured during and after cleaning has been performed, as appropriate. Reports and discusses any serious or recurring problems regarding poor performance, repeated attendance issues, employee relations concerns, etc. with the Supervisor, Custodial Services. Performs building walk-throughs to inspect and verify that building is in detailed and clean condition.
Picks up trash and refuse in rooms, hallways, restrooms, stairwells, elevators, classrooms, etc. Transports waste and recycle bins to central area or main disposal receptacle. Cleans and sanitizes waste receptacles as needed. Cleans classrooms, offices, conference rooms, auditoriums, elevators, hallways, stairwells, and other public areas of assigned buildings and floors. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms including vanity/sink, hardware, mirrors, walls, commodes, doors, etc. Restocks restroom supplies as required. Dusts, polishes, and/or cleans furniture, mirrors, doors, vents, walls, door frames, ceilings, window ledges, etc. Also removes cobwebs and may need to occasionally move small furniture (e.g., chairs). May perform specialized cleaning in patient care areas such as cleaning of medical examination tables, discarding of properly disposed blood borne pathogens or miscellaneous laboratory refuse. Operates a vacuum, extractor, buffer, wet/dry vacuum, and other specialty cleaning equipment. Some lifting may be required, i.e., custodial equipment, classroom furniture, large recycle bins, custodial supplies, etc.
Sweeps and mops floors in assigned areas. Vacuums rugs and carpets. Strips, buffs, seals. and refinishes hard surface floors as needed or requested. Shampoos and/or spot cleans carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture as needed or requested.
Responds to emergency events during business hours, non-business hours, holidays, and university closures.
Performs other duties as required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires completion of the 9th grade and one year of cleaning/custodial experience. A valid Florida Driver's License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated.
PREFERRED:
High School diploma/GED/Certificate of Completion, and 2 or more years of custodial experience in a university, commercial or medical setting.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
A valid Florida Driver's License. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to operate a Floor Care Stripping Machine, Carpet Cleaning Machine, KAIVAC Machine, Vacuum, Chariot Auto Scrubber, Janitorial Cart, etc.

Additionally, on a case-by-case basis, staff members may be designated as essential by management based on the nature of the emergency and/or the availability of other personnel. Individuals identified as essential personnel may be expected to be on-site regardless of the employee's normal work schedule. In Services, the Grounds and Custodial staff are determined as essential.
