Job Description:
The Oregon State Capitol is undergoing extensive seismic and accessibility improvements. This, along with ongoing maintenance and special projects, require a dedicated team of professionals skilled in the use, care, and maintenance of custodial equipment to ensure that the Oregon State Capitol remains immaculate for all who enter.
Legislative Administration is recruiting for an experienced Custodial Coordinator with a keen eye towards excellence, who is ready to lead a team of dedicated custodial professionals in scheduling and prioritization of work, new hire training, quality and inventory control. We are looking for someone who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty!
This position requires the successful candidate to work on site at the Capitol, or other work sites associated with Capitol construction projects. You are invited to review the position description below; if your work history and expertise align with the position, we encourage you to apply.
The work history and experience of the successful candidate will include:
Knowledge of:
- The legislative process at the Capitol
- The wide range of functions performed by Facilities Services
- Building use policy, project and ongoing maintenance issues
- Safe practices when moving large items
- First aid
- The use, care, and maintenance of all custodial equipment, such as buffing machines, industrial carpet cleaners, industrial extractors burnishing machines, industrial vacuums, industrial ladders, and equipment carts
- Environmental hazards best practices
- Knowledge of blood borne pathogens, lead, PPE, asbestos, and hazardous material safety practices
- Security and emergency protocols
Skill in:
- Leadership training and coaching of custodial staff
- Standard office computer applications
- Customer service
- Operation of floor care equipment
- A wide variety of cleaning methods and techniques
Ability to:
- Read, understand and retain information regarding SDS sheets and any manufacturer statements for fixtures, floor surface materials, glass, wall surface materials, paints, wood products, and equipment instructions.
- Stand, stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, grasp, lift at least 35 pounds, squat, climb and perform other routine activities and other duties assigned using proper safety precautions/equipment
- Ensure effective delivery of service to all customers
- Recognize and encourage innovation and performance among individuals and teams
- Effectively communicate with a wide range of customers, both orally and in writing
- Coordinate meetings and schedules of multiple stakeholders
- Balance abilities, workloads, and schedules of staff
- Pay close attention to details
- Maintain an impartial, nonpartisan perspective in a political environment
- Prioritize tasks

HOW TO QUALIFY:
Your application must demonstrate:
High School diploma or equivalent AND
Two (2) years lead worker or supervisor experience in a public or private organization which includes responsibility for each of the following:
- Planning, assigning, and approving work
- Routine conflict resolution
- Full building maintenance/custodial responsibility AND
One (1) year full performance custodial experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.
