Janitors are responsible for keeping buildings clean by picking up trash, sweeping, and mopping, as well as cleaning bathrooms and ensuring they are fully stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. Housekeepers also complete a number of other functions, such as cleaning windows, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash. Must have basic knowledge of Maintenance.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Clean assigned areas including furniture, telephones, fixtures, walls, windows, window sills, blinds and vents.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum all area floors, rest rooms and break areas.
- Clean rest room facilities and replenish supplies.
- Perform general cleaning, light floor care and special event set ups.
- Collect and remove trash and recyclables.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Assist Maintenance Manager when needed.
Position Responsibilities
- Operates various cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, polishers, buffers, etc.
- Maintains facility in a clean and sanitary condition through washing, cleaning, and replacement of equipment and furnishings.
- Requires working in damp, dusty and dirty areas.
- Responsible for disposal of trash, waste, and other disposable materials. Empties trash containers.
- Handles various cleaning solvents, chemicals, etc. Complies with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, State Health Department, etc.
- Plans work schedule for major tasks.
- Damp dusts furniture, light fixtures, window sills, etc.
- Wet mops floors in assigned areas, including bathrooms daily. Damp mops all corridor floors, lobby, dining areas, and others daily.
- Cleans restrooms, wash basins, mirrors, commodes, counter tops, urinals, tubs, and showers daily. Cleans toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors and counters.
- Checks all assigned areas daily to keep fresh.
- Cleans air vents.
- Reports any needed repairs immediately to supervisor (such as leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile, broken window panes, missing nuts or screws, etc.).
- Washes windows as scheduled.
- Strips and recoats all floor areas when necessary and as scheduled.
- Checks areas for spills, water, etc. periodically, especially in bathrooms.
- Use safety precautions in all housekeeping services.
- Maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.
- Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
(May include some or all of the following as applicable)
- Operates equipment as needed in order to maintain cleanliness of property, including pressure washer, blower, etc.
- Removes litter from all areas of the community.
- Empties trash cans, ashtrays and all sanitary receptacles.
- Vacuums, sweeps, polishes and mops floors.
- Straightens furniture.
- Dusts and removes fingerprints from all surfaces.
- Polishes windows, glass doors, brass, mirrors and bright work.
- Checks all light bulbs.
- Cleans and disinfects counter tops, and sinks.
- Cleans appliances, inside and out.
- Restocks towel, toilet paper and soap dispensers.
- Sanitizes all bathroom bowls, sinks, partitions and urinals on a daily basis.
- Wipes down shower stalls if applicable.
- Wipes down and disinfecting fitness equipment if applicable.
- Cleans clubhouse if applicable.
- Maintains pool deck and straightens store rooms
- Straights and washes pool deck furniture.
- Sets rooms up for events and meetings daily and as necessary.
- Cleans and resets rooms after events.
- Creates necessary work orders.
- Maintains supply inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
- Advises supervisor of any issues.
- Assists in hurricane preparation.
- Maintains a pristine facility.
- Maintains a safe and secure environment throughout the building/property(s).
- Ensures all safety precautions are followed while performing duties.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- 0-3 years of directly related or closely related experience.
- Must be able to speak and read English as it pertains to chemical and safety manuals.
- Skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate the following equipment and machines: Backpack blower; broom; dustpan; ladder; extension pole; general hand tools; and safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection.
- Knowledge of general maintenance requirements, (documentation, safety, required reporting, regulations, etc.)
- Self-motivated, proactive, detail oriented and a team player.
- Interpretation and completion of verbal and/or written instructions at a proficient level.
- Time management and time critical prioritization skills.
