Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance supervisor or alternate, this position is primarily responsible for the general cleaning and minor maintenance of the Agency’s facilities. Employee must comply with proper safety policies and procedures as required and provide excellent customer services to both internal and external customers. Responsible for cleaning buildings, removing debris, and keeping areas neat and tidy. Vacuums and buffs floors, shampoos carpet, empties trash receptacles, and replace lining of trash cans. Minor maintenance tasks including painting, spot checking for maintenance needs, informing supervisor or adding a ticket, or duties assigned
This position would be four days a week at our Hornell IP and 1 day a week at our Dansville Wellness.
Essential Job Functions
- Sweep and mop floors; Strip, seal, finish, and/or polish floors as needed and applicable.
- Clean buildings by emptying trash, sweeping, and cleaning surfaces replacing trash can liners, etc.
- Clean and service restrooms with mops and disinfectants.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Make arrangements for vendors to perform other duties as needed i.e. steam clean carpets.
- Use cleaning solutions to remove stains and clean surface; clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment and any other pertinent surfaces.
· Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
· Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation and/or make arrangements for third party provision of these services.
· Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems as needed and/or notify manager/landlord concerning need for repair(s).
Secondary Functions
· Move heavy equipment and furniture as needed for events, meetings, etc.
· Deliver interoffice mail.
· Patrol foyers to building and outside entrance to ensure no smoking policy is enforced and to provide oversight.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation products, techniques and methods and working knowledge of operating cleaning equipment and small tools.
· Ability to work in a professional manner with vendors/landlords with attention to financial/contractual constraints.
· Strong attention to detail required
· Must be able to follow written and verbal directions
· Must be capable of working in a fast paced environment that may include multiple interruptions.
· Must have the capacity and compassion to work around a varied client base with diverse challenges and psychological/emotional trauma.
· Ability to plan and organize and work collaboratively with internal and external clients.

The Janitorial Specialist will need physical stamina and mobility including ability to reach, kneel and bend, stoop, push, pull, lift required load (up to 50 pounds). Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers in relation to purchase and budgeting of supplies. Must be able to drive a vehicle and get in and out of a car frequently.
Qualifications
Minimum of a High School diploma or GED. Must have experience operating housekeeping equipment and small tools. One year housekeeping experience in a hospitality/medical environment is highly desirable. This position requires a valid Driver’s license and personal transportation for travel to other locations.
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
