This position is temporary and not guaranteed beyond the funding provided through the Alabama Department of Human Resources Summer Youth Employment Project.
Employment Period: June 1 - August 25 (13 weeks)
Salary: This is a part-time summer position. Pay for this position is $12.00 per hour with no benefits available. Time worked per week will not exceed nineteen (19) hours.
The purpose/role of this position is to assist the department staff in a variety of clerical duties. This position allows employees the opportunity to acquire life and job skills, as well as work experience while being reimbursed. This is also an opportunity for learning and growth in the skill gap areas that Alabama employers have deemed an urgent need in the labor force. Under the general direction of the departmental supervisor, the person in this position is responsible for assisting department staff in a variety of clerical duties. Work is performed under the close supervision of skilled personnel in accordance with the assigned departmental rules and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Must be able to perform the following duties:
CLERK
- Filing
- Copying, Scanning, Printing
- Data entry on computer
- Record Retention/Disposal
- Mail Pickup and Delivery
- Maintain Files
OR
HOUSEKEEPING TECHNICIAN
- Conduct routine cleaning
- Operate cleaning equipment.
- Set up equipment, tables, and chairs, and rearrange rooms for registration, graduation, and other special events
- Clean facilities by dusting furnishings; washing walls, doors, sills, floors, cleaning windows; and vacuuming carpet.
- Gather and dispose of trash.
- Clean and sanitize bathrooms and keep them supplied with toiletries.
- Report repair needs to the Supervisor
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.2. Perform duties that are unique to the specific department, office, or position assigned.3. Organize assigned workload to meet appropriate deadlines.4. Perform all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the College mission.5. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with other administrative, faculty, and staff personnel.6. Follow departmental guidelines and procedures.7. Maintain confidentiality of identified sensitive information and of departmental information.8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
ALABAMA RESIDENTS ONLY
Eligible participants must be aged 16-24 and have a household income below 200% of the 2024 Federal Poverty Level Guidelines (See chart below) or currently be receiving TANF and/or SNAP benefits from the Alabama Department of Human Resources. In addition, participants must complete the Eligibility & Affirmation for Summer Youth Employment form.
