BIOFUEL TECHNICIAN

Position Summary:
Safely operates equipment for all production processes performed at Ace Ethanol LLC. Learns, understands and complies with plant safety and production rules and regulations. Monitors, documents, and troubleshoots production activities according to established procedures. Keeps others informed of problems or potential problems as indicated.
Specific Job Duties:
o Operating the manufacturing process:
o Oversee and control the process (4 stations – Cook, Distillation, D3MAX, Dryers)
o Follow written procedures (SOPs)
o Start/stop and control pumps, fans, conveyors, etc.
o Monitor and make adjustments to flows, temperatures, pressures, etc.
o Log process data on paper and computer
o Take samples and run lab tests on process streams (pH, solids, proof, etc.)
o Troubleshoot process problems
o Load ingredients into yeast propagation tanks
o Operate forklifts to move ingredient pallets and totes
o Travel throughout Plant areas to monitor the process, take samples, check on equipment, and troubleshoot process problems
o Housekeeping
o Sweep floors
o Shovel spills (corn, flour, DDGS)
o Clean sample containers and buckets
o Wash down floors with a hose or pressure washer
o Push liquids with a squeegee
o Non-Routine
o Assist with maintenance tasks
o Lift parts/tools/equipment (up to 50 pounds or a two-man lift)
o Additional workdays during plant outages, usually two-times per year
o Overtime to provide minimum required Operations coverage
o Confined space entry for cleaning and maintenance activities
o Operate personnel lifts to access valves and equipment
o Working on elevated working platforms up to 100 feet
Required Skills & Abilities:
o Work performed is expected to meet or exceed guidelines for safety, quality, accuracy, timeliness and thoroughness.
o Due to 24/7/365 operations and number of operators on each shift, must be reliable and timely in reporting to work.
o Accurately troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
o Communicate effectively and develop good working relationships with others
o Conduct self with honesty and integrity
o Take initiative to notice what needs to be done and the good judgment to act appropriately.
o Must be able to work both independently and as a team member
o Multi-task effectively with ability to adjust to changing priorities and process upset conditions
Education & Experience:
o Requires at least a high school education or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
o Sitting while monitoring computer screens (control systems)
o Walking and working on flat surfaces, uneven surfaces, and grating platforms
o Climbing stairs to elevated working platforms, and ladders up to 50 feet
o Lifting 50-pound ingredient bags
o Crouching, bending, twisting, reaching overhead
o Working in hot and cold environments, indoors and outdoors
o Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), such as steel toed shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection, face shield, respirator, etc…
