POSITION SUMMARY
The incumbent of this position will function under the direction of the Janitorial Supervisor. The Janitor will focus on maintaining clean and orderly conditions in all governmental buildings, out-buildings, associated facilities and grounds keeping duties located on or near the Pine Creek Reservation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete, and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities and position titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government.
- Cleans floors by sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
- Gathers and disposes of interior and exterior trash, including safely handling and disposal of sharps containers and similar materials.
- Gathers recycling and takes to appropriate location.
- Cleans, disinfects, and stocks restrooms, including fixtures and showers.
- Cleans and disinfects office spaces, exam rooms, fitness areas, laboratories, lobbies, corridors, common eating areas and other work areas as designated.
- Cleans windows, glass partitions, mirrors and polishes stainless steel, as directed.
- Perform minor soap and sanitizer dispenser maintenance as necessary (replacing batteries, switching motors).
- Completes required paperwork, including daily and restroom logs.
- Assists with event set up, tear down, and staffing as required, including occasional night or weekend events.
- Maintains clean and organized work spaces including storage and work areas; requests supplies as needed and stocks closets appropriately.
- Vacuums bugs from light fixtures no more than 8 feet high.
- Clean up of bodily fluid spills on property.
- Assists during staffing shortages with minor grounds maintenance.
- Attends on- and off-site meetings and trainings as required.
- Performs sanitization as directed.
- Escorts facility related contractors as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- High school diploma or equivalent or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to understand, gain knowledge and appreciate the differences with the Native American culture and customs.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must maintain a valid driver license with good driving record; GSA certifiable. Tier I employees (NHBP Tribal Member Employees), must at minimum, be able to have reliable transportation. If unable to be GSA Certifiable, then must be able to provide valid proof of insurance on own vehicle or make arrangements with others for transportation to be able to fulfil the requirements of the position.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and how to handle and apply them properly and safely.
- Basic knowledge of janitorial equipment, such as vacuums, mopping system(s), and wet/dry vacuum.
- Must be in good physical condition, able to lift up to 60 lbs. overhead with or without assistance.
- Ability to perform strenuous and repetitive physical labor.
- Take direction and perform duties without continuous supervision.
- Ability to operate small and medium size mechanical equipment.
- Ability to learn and follow safety rules.
- Willingness to learn new skills as required.
- Dependability, initiative, good judgment and team orientated attitude required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years’ experience in janitorial and/or custodial duties.
- Familiar with electrostatic sprayers and high-level disinfection procedures, techniques and methods.

Language Skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Incumbent must be able to work indoors as well as extended hours out of doors in varying weather conditions while performing heavy manual labor. Must be able to work safely with machinery and chemicals.
Exposed to a combination of office and outdoor environments, including extended hours in inclement weather conditions. Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
Requires mobility, frequent walking, standing, sitting stationary and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Exerts up to 60 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and long distance. The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet. Must be able to work flexible hours when necessary or as directed. Must be able to travel. Must be able to adjust schedule as needed or required.
