The Opportunity:
We are actively seeking to hire a Custodial Specialist III to become a valuable member of our dynamic team in the Housekeeping department. As a Custodial Specialist III, you will play a key role in supervising, training, planning, scheduling, and coordinating the workload for our dedicated employees. Your responsibilities will extend to ensure quality maintenance, sanitation, safety, and proper function of all buildings, systems, equipment, and the surrounding environment within the housekeeping department.
Responsibilities:

Lead Custodial Specialist I and II employees in daily work performance: Coach and train employees on job assignments, standards, and customer service.
-
Conduct quality checks of employee work assignments to ensure buildings are cleaned to the level specified in the Quality Assurance audit program, and that all work is completed as scheduled and performed within the allotted time.

Develop and execute a system of internal controls that provides reasonable assurance unit operations are effective and efficient, unit assets are safeguarded, unit financial information is reliable, and the unit complies with applicable laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.

Perform and document cleanliness audits; Record and track inspection ratings; Conduct appropriate employee performance follow-ups when necessary.

Provide and schedule safety training to the team.

Review all work orders assigned to the zone.

Maintain and enter accurate data into the Integrated Work Management System (IWMS); Provide team with a schedule that allows coordination between zone supervision, staff, work groups or trades, vendors, customers, UCF or State of Florida inspectors, and stakeholders required to complete a job.

Prioritize, validate, and distribute work requests following established departmental standard operating procedures, applicable State and Federal guidelines, and the unit process guide.

Collaborate with key stakeholders to schedule utility and equipment shutdowns and/or area closures required to complete the project. Respond to all life safety and urgent work orders in an expedited manner.

As part of the high-performance work team, this position performs light maintenance activities which may include but are not limited to, restroom dispenser repairs, drain cleaning, light bulb replacements, painting, and/or pressure washing.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of 9th grade and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Preferred Qualifications:

1 year of leadership or supervisory experience.
-
3+ years’ experience in a custodial, janitorial, or similar type of physical role.
-
Ability to assess material needs, order, and sustain accurate and sufficient inventories.
-
Previous experience organizing resources and ensuring work productivity and service meet UCF quality assurance standards.
-
Experience in a customer-focused role where professionalism is needed, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and address sensitive matters appropriately and efficiently.
-
Capable of communicating in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate and interpret the functions of the electronic equipment (iPad for IWMS PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.

Ability to delegate, train, coach, lead, motivate, and ensure cohesiveness in varied work environments.
-
Experience using tools for tasks (mop/mop bucket, dust mop, broom, scrub pad, radio, etc.) and small and/or large floor equipment for carpet and hard floor care.

Knowledge of safety for EH&S-approved chemicals for daily cleaning of restrooms, floors, and surfaces and ability to use approved chemicals.

Able to comprehend and support all applicable Federal, State, and local safety rules and regulations, including OSHA, Dept. of Health, and the Bureau of Fire Safety.

Capable of understanding, communicating, applying, and enforcing UCF guidelines, regulations, and policies, as well as comprehending reports, inspections, and documentation pertinent to the unit.

Ability to interpret, follow, and/or provide instructions.
-
Flexible for use and direction by trade for most urgent requirements.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
